On the Jellicoe Road

On the Jellicoe Road - Melina Marchetta I'll admit that I struggled to start reading this book. Every time I tried to get past the first few pages, I would get frustrated or distracted - something that doesn't happen when I read books that I find brilliant. Naturally, I assumed that because of this I would hate it.

However, the book slowly began to draw me in, to the point where I couldn't put it down and even though I'd figured out a rough idea of what was going to happen; what had happened; and how the story would end, I still found myself moved to the point of tears by the last page (and I mean full on hysterical crying, it's that moving). The story is so heartbreakingly beautiful that I feel it will stay with me for a very long time.

I won't say anything about the story itself - it really has to be read with no expectations. I'm also not saying that it's technically perfect. I'm just saying read it. Hopefully when you do, you'll understand what I mean.
